Rattlesnake PT2: repost from ebay

OKAY got the mess scared out of mePosted Sep-20-08 14:44:22 PDTSeems we have a HUGE rattlesnake hiding out near one of our coops. This sucker is long over 5 foot. Hubby went next door to get the neighbors 22. HOLEY MOLEY, told him three weeks ago I found a large snake shed but, NOOOOOOOOO!

So, he saw it and came back to the house. It went under a large round of hay. Now hubby and the neighbors are thrashing around outside trying to find it. WTH, does any man listen to a woman. Told him they would not find that her,,,,yes I know its a female. Grrrrrrrr

find the holes, then spray bug spray into them, be ready when they come out to pin them and chop of the heads. That's how my dad killed snakes when I was young in WV, mom

hope he get them all

Gun debate, get one or not to get one?Posted Sep-21-08 07:15:08 PDTThat is the question...........After hubby finally saw the rattler I have told him about, seen her and found her shed. He just did not believe me I guess. You can read the post from yesterday when he spotted her. So, now our heated discussion is to buy and kept a shotgun.

He is for buying and I am against. Mind you, I know how he keeps care of his tools. (I am the one who picks them up and puts them back in his work shop.) So, my arguement is no way because even if the gun is kept in a gun safe; he would leave the keys hanging around.

---Both my sons are very adept hunters of small objects----

Next point, though we did kill the yearling ratter last week. I did not feel bad about killing it for the simple reason it was much harder to see, it did not rattle, and was laying in ambush mode. The five foot snake on the other hand, has lived a long time and has the "right" genes to pass on to future generations, and was not in our walking path.

OPINIONS welcome here:

We have a 5x12 gun closet that is bolted/locked. There are two keys. We raised two boys and raised their friends. There was always a housefull of kids in our home watching TV, doing homework, hanging out while we were both home and away. Never an incident.

ON THE OTHER HAND .. my husband's cousin who had two boys the same age as our kids had an arsonal as well ... guns were never locked up ... the kids played with them and shot them off in the house ... they also burned the neighbor's barn down and ACCIDENTLY cut half their little sister's foot off with the lawn mower.

You and only you can make your home safe ... the only killing that went on in our home was when the hunting dogs killed my chickens.
