So I Decided to Do a Thing

   I have always heard that a raising tide lifts all boats. What a load of horseshit that is.  It is not true; everyone doesn't have a boat, can swim or lives near water.  FFS What is wrong with people? 

   I however, cannot expect change to happen without getting uncomfortable and doing the work to make change happen.  So, I ran for County Party Chairman.  Now, I am it; new on the job, learning how to be a politician and work well with others.  Should be easy right?  Nothing is further from the truth. We have become so divided as a country; I don't know how we are going to unite again and that unison always seems to come under grave threat to our country during national emergencies.

    We all are guilty of maligning or labeling the other side as deficient in some area like intellect or moral character.  What I have learned is in my county in the reddest of red soup bowls; I am not alone searching for other blue dots.  This will be my first election as a judge and worker.  By chance, I have with phone calls,Twitter, Facebook made progress in learning my new job.  I am also going to build a "continuity book" so, the person that proudly signs up for county party chair will have a blue print and know when and what to do. 

   With all of this; love another because most are just trying to live their best life. Now please get out and vote. I really don't want to read other Inspector General reports about how terribly our government are treating detainees, immigrants or prisoners. Our Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and the future of our great grandchildren at risk.

The POTUS is a white supremacist plain and simple. The Grand Ole Party (my old alma mater) died and resurrected itself into the nationalist clan of T.  Our White House is now the grand wizard's castle.  What is shocking but, not really shocking is a full half or more white people own this racism and I see you.  So, what are you going to do? 

I have went to rallies, volunteered for a campaign, wrote, called, texted, block walked, ran for office and won a seat.

May's Primaries

Anyone having trouble relaxing tonight? Man, I am. I have from the beginning of this election campaign when Trump announced. I have always thought Trump was a 'mark' to hold the door open for the #GOP into the White House.

A few years ago Hubby & I joked during the 2011 #WHCD. -- "What if Trump does run to make sure #Clinton has a chance? Do y'all remember all the negative publicity Trump brought to the GOP bolstering the DNC as the 'sane party?' Because of the nonsense with the birther movement.

Hubby & I thought Trump would have a better chance than Romney as a national candidate. We talked about the idea of the DNC & RNC making a deal to get & keep both houses because there is more money to make there for corporations through repub-based legislation. Another plus would be the DNC taking a 3rd Dem Exec seat and later be known as a "save-face" after the economic crash.

We were only joking and making 'what ifs' as we watch Trump grin and bear the ribbing from those at the podium. Anyone could see Trump's wheels turning in his head.

Crazy thing is, we are not fans of Clinton. We both served our country during the Clinton era. No, thank-you because MrC compromised so much he was in the RNC pocket. Mrs is a ( Rep) in Dem disguise. She did not support many humanist goals I believe in as a voter. I told Nigel as my witness, I could not support her then. Sadly, I am still in that position along with hubby.

Things I don't support about Clinton

the woman card, voter fraud, MrC showing up at polling places, email, Iraq war, not supporting the min wage hikes, & ripping pages from Sanders campaign (I'll add more later)

Now with #Cruz dropping out after announcing his running mate in a weak attempt to garner more votes. We are stunned was he paid off or just 'suspend' so he could come in at a later time. #Kasich is suspiciously quiet after garnering what 8% in Indiana. Perhaps Priebus and deep pockets are scrambling now to work in a way to ensure a contested convention. Lets think about this folks, Cruz quit but why? This is what is running through my mind.

Any ideas because the Crap is definitely not funny anymore. I will leave you with Meat Ball's Ghost's tweet in 2012 & blame him/ her for putting 'Trump as Pres' into the Twitterverse.

Really tired of the pushing other folks away just because what they choose to do with their life, pop a squat, choose to bump uglies with in the bedroom, put in or on their bodies, teach there children, cross a border or whatever fooking makes us different.

By Chance Meetings On Social Media

Our world is changing and I believe it is a great thing in many. 

      I have met through social media many talented people as well as a few arses. It may be true even that for some social media keeps us apart while, for myself it does not. I actually learn more and meet folks online since we live in a very rural area and going into town daily is not feasible.  


      Today, by chance through Twitter I found a Kick starter fund raising request for a new short film called "Scythe" by Jim Rothman. So, I am a noisy person and through asking questions found one of his brilliant films called "Minutes" on YouTube. It is only 17 minutes long and will gut you. People are flawed, we all have our prejudices. We often pre-judge others by the behaviors we 'usually' are guilty of as far as judgement mistakes. 

This is what stuck out for me.

     When sitting in the Clinic, Jacob (Rothman) sees a man (Michael McDonald) he passed judgement on before. This man, John turns his head and Jacob sees a sore on the back of John's neck.  Jacob's physical reaction is palpable since, he may be viewing a piece of his own future.  I am not going to give much away because the film is only 17 minutes.  It is so worth your time to check it out.  I will will use the film later as a discussion point for our sons about compassion.

4/21/16 My Icons Are Dying

     The last time I cried more than once over a celebrity was when I learned that Nina Simone had died, I was wiped out emotionally for awhile. Her music seem to just mirror all the things in my heart and soul were experiencing.  David Bowie was a kick in the gut as well and I mourned. Prince's death is the one that actually made me cry -- the ugly cry.
  
     I am usually pretty good at compartmentalizing to keep my bipolar mood swings in check.  If I opened my mouth I would have been a puddle on the floor on Thursday. I just did not want to share how much his art and music meant to me.  I usually do not geek out and follow actors, writers, or artists.  Don't get me wrong I love music, books, movies and all forms of art.  There was just something unique in his vision.  

     I was in actual shock though when hubby told me on 4/21/16 that he was dead and glued myself to the news.  Man, the wind was sucked right out of me.  He was controversial because of his lyrics and music to many folks. To me however, he was a liberator, an artist's artist, poet, and musical genius.  His talent playing the guitar and piano incomparable to no other. 

     Once, the drug rumors started to hit the air waves I tuned out.  I just could not take anymore speculation.  Now on this evening,  I will keep my thoughts and poems private. I just want to send some good will into the universe as I wave my purple pen in honor of an artist who will continue to live in my heart.  RIP Prince Rogers Nelson 

Not so Informed, We are Just Entertained

Today Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am in mourning for America.

     With the advent of the 24-hour news cycle in the 90s, the assumption should support a well-informed American public.  This however is not the case.  Look at what is on your cable networks, with the shutdown of Al Jazeera – America, the public look for information about the world are down to:

1.      CNN (supports Clinton or Trump’s shenanigans.)

2.      Fox News (supports the conservative right.)

3.      MSNBC (supports the progressive left.)

4.      HLN (covers trials, forensic files, and other pop culture snippets)

     

Now for the other offerings are 4 channels with business news, 2 weather channel, 2 channels to cover the House and Senate.  No wonder Americans are so uninformed. Our news broadcasts have become a pop culture and entertainment industry.  There is no place on our cable (DIRECTV network) to check in for information based upon empirical fact-based information.  I miss the day of NPR, Current, and now sadly Al Jazeera-America.

     I will not bow down through and become a mindless drone that is spoon-fed information by entertainers as fact.  I will go to other sources to stay informed about my community, national issues and our world.  For the record, I am teaching our sons how to find information using the internet.  I just hope those who take the time to read; do the same.

2 Months Master's until is Complete

Hey Peeps,

We are still around and staying out of trouble.  Hubby retired in November 2015.  January, Lisa moved into an apartment in San Antonio, is currently working and going to college.

Saenz is nearing graduation from high school.  Zephyr will start the 6th grade.  So what are we going to do with all our time as a family?  Same as always more reading, writing, learning and some gardening.  I plan to start writing again upon graduation.  I seriously hope your coops are doing well in your slice of heaven.

Crock Pot Sunday, Cubby lends a hand.

     One of the things I love about this time of year is cooking warm meals of stew, soup, chili, or crock pot favorites.  This is cubby stirring shrimp into the gumbo after he helped me clean them.  He has gotten the knack of 'pinch & pull' when detailing and shelling shrimp and crawfish.  He has been a helper in our kitchen since he was in diapers.  The best way to combat picky eaters is getting them to: plan, shop, chop, cook, and clean.

     I hope ya'll are having a wonderful week.  Can you believe next week is Thanksgiving?  We usually just do a in-ground roasted turkey with a few sides and dessert.  Have you got all your holiday shopping done? I am happy to say that I have finished all the boys gifts.  Thank You! internet.  I don't do Black Friday because it is so not worth the hassle.

     We still have not found the cat from our last post but, we keep looking for it.  Sad thing is, I am afraid it has died by now without the neighbor finding it.  Our neighbor works extremely late into the night and is gone most days before sun-up.  So I am sending a little positive energy into the universe hoping he was able to free himself.

     How are ya'll enjoying The Walking Dead or American Horror Story?  My favorite character this season is Carol. I am glad to see her transition into a 'hard-nose survivor.'  Most of the time I am on team Rick or Michonne.  I currently have all ten hard bound copies of the entire comic series and usually reread them all throughout the year. On American Horror Story, Twisty the Clown is already dead but, I still am enjoying this Freak Show season mainly because of Jessica Lange, Frances Conroy, Angela Bassett, and Kathy Bates; those women rock the show each season.

So, what are ya'll looking forward to in the new year?

Not Everyone Has a Great Day...Even on Pretend World Facebook

This morning, we found a cat in trouble.

 

 

     But, at 4 a.m. Momma can not see much and Dad had to get to the carpool drop off point.  So we took Pappa Bear to his ride and came back.....no cat.  Zephyr and I went to sleep and got up to find the cat.  In the morning, we got all gussied up in sleeves and boots with gloves and veggie oil just in case the cat was a scrapper.  We found him (a neighbor's yard cat) and started working to pull the can off -- No luck.

 

 

    While I held the cat and tried to soothe him.  Saenz cut a hole in the bottom of the can big enough for the cat to see light but, we  still could not pull the can off.  We kept working on the cat and got the can to budge some. As we were working the cat was calm and very quiet.  Miracles of miracles the cat was not a fighter or a scratcher.  I kept working on trying to get his ears back --- guess he got fed up with our attempts and just bolted up the driveway with can still attached.

 

    Zephyr and I took off after the cat because our next play was to take him to the vet in town.  Guess what, we could not find the darn cat; it disappeared in the field.  We looked for him but, luck.  We came out several time and still nothing.  All told, we looked for the cat about six different times to no avail.

 

    So this day did not turn out like a Facebook Fairytale for neither the cat nor us. :o(

Still Here!

How the heck have you, peeps been?

We are sticking it here on the place.  Life has been super busy the last year and a half.  We are still a family who home schools.  Hubby works for the Army down in Corpus Christi. Sid, Junior (his two girls), and Lisa have all moved back to San Antonio.  We have almost got our super quiet home back to where it was before March 2013. 

So, what has changed or kept us away for 18 months?  Well stay tuned and I may just write about our lives a bit to fill all of ya'll our changes.

You Know You Are A Gardener When?

You dance with joy over the gift of avocado trees for Mother's Day.  Hubby picked the perfect gift to add to our mini orchard.  Two of these lovelies will be planted in our yard this very afternoon.  I could just do the happy dance!  Who needs candy or jewelry when such a thoughtful gift will be in our family for generations.

Got Squash?

     Hubby found this sneaky hybrid (Sid pictured) yesterday hiding in the corner of one of our beds.  Let's just say it was not long for this world and wound up on the grill.  How are the gardens at your place doing?  We are hitting 90+ degree days already.  It is hard to keep up with the watering with all the high winds we experience.

     We received a gift from Mr. Larry on how to build our own solar power system.  Means, I have some serious reading to do these next couple of weeks.  It would be nice to put in a solar harvesting system because we get plenty of sun down here.  I will have to check out wind powered systems since, the wind almost always blows around here.

     I will be back later to tell ya'll about the baby rabbits Sid found in our yard.  The little doves flew away already -- boy that was quick, I miss checking on them.  Today's chore will be making pickled radishes.

Chicks are growing fast and look almost too big for nest.

 

Grandpa has a pot of beans on with leg quarters on the grill.  I just put on the hybrid squash (no seeds just look at photo in last post.)  I have been weeding our Brussels sprouts row.

 

 Earlier we put in three concord grape vines and two Queen Anne raspberry canes.  Junior is just chilling out with his girls.  Sid took off to spend some time in Poth with his Uncle Danny.  Not much else going on around the coop.

Bye Bye Thieving Gopher

     This little monster took down 3 grown tomato plants.  Hubby just dispatched him with a 12 gauge.  Sarah our brave little gardener is happy to inspect her grandpa's work.  Hopefully, this will be the last one daring enough to invade our yard.  We don't take lightly to poachers especially, when they are stealing from our plates.

Zu-neck or Crook-chini? You Decide

    Aren't these squash crazy looking?  We did not plant any squash in our corner bed this year.  This squash just showed up and has these shiny, ridged, and covered in small hair.  It's all good with us, since we will put them on the grill tonight along with our beef fajita.  It is nice to start harvesting this early in the year.  I have to go into town tomorrow to get pickling supplies for our first batch of radishes. What do ya'll have planted in your gardens?

New Dove Chicks, Radishes and Strange Squash Hybrid

   Can you see their little beaks?  Momma has found some type of netting to build with; which looks like deer netting to me.  To me these babies look prickly -- can't believe she has two chicks this size.  Tomorrow I will have to take pics of our first vegetables of the season.  So far we got radishes (for pickling) and a weird mix of zucchini and crooked neck squash we did not plant but, the seed must have been in the ground over the short winter.  The squash are super shiny and have bumps to boot.  Any whosits, I will get some snap shots of the strange offerings tomorrow.  Enjoy your evening; we are all tucked in for the night at the coop.

Spring Has Sprung

    Isn't she lovely, this little dove is sitting two lovely little eggs next to one of our garden beds.  I found her nest while trimming a small tree along our fence line.  I really thought this nest would not survive the high winds so, I wove some branches to fortify the limbs she chose for nesting.  What a lucky find to help this momma.

     We have been busy this spring laying in three medium garden beds.  This year we are trying something different by just tilling long rows and leaving our grass alone in between the rows.  We chose to do this because of South Texas's drought, high winds, and soil erosion. 

     So far, we have corn as you can see Sarah holding the seedlings as well as: cucumbers, carrots, beets, radishes, cilantro, parsley, peppers, watermelon, pumpkins, zucchini, crooked neck squash, tomatoes, oregano, chives with plans to add more as we get the soil worked.  Also this spring we have added more fruit trees to our property: figs, two types of green grapes, muscadine (cowart grape), black berry, chili petins, five apple trees, peaches, blue berry, lemon, limes, and soon Queen Anne raspberries.  This morning hubby and I were surprised to find two fruit on one of our pomegranate trees; after two years of babying seems we may have gotten lucky this year.

     Next month will start our next academic school year.  We home school during the absolute horror of Texas's Fire Ball summers and take it easy during the fall and spring for gardening, fishing, and just to chill.  I haven't picked the curriculum for this year both Sarah and Zephyr will be 4th graders and Saenz will be doing a combo of 9th/10th grade.  How time flies around here.

     Hubby and I have been talking about building up our flock again plus adding some farm critters.  How I miss having goats, guineas, and pigs, to care for and watch.  It will be tough though because our neighbors allow their dogs to run free and this year we have lost 3 chickens to them in the passed month.  Yes, I am seriously considering using fire power to off them; I don't like killing someone's pet but, what other choice do we have?

     Our thoughts and prayers are with the families in Boston and West, Texas.   May you all find happiness in your slices of heaven this week.
